Foundation is where luxury beauty has to work hardest to justify itself. A beautiful bottle cannot save a base that sits badly on texture, disappears strangely by lunch, or announces itself from across the room. Price can buy elegance. It cannot buy a free pass.

Ten foundations judged on the face rather than on the vanity.
