The At-Home Spa Edit

Ten expensive devices, one humble jar of eye patches, and a clear account of which claims are supported, which are thin, and which we will not repeat.

The At-Home Spa Edit

This is the category where the marketing runs furthest ahead of the evidence, so we have written every entry twice: once for what the device is good at, and once for what it cannot do. LED has real and modest support for the appearance of skin. Infrared heat is pleasant and that is mostly the point, which goes for the worn heat wrap and the compression boots at the expensive end of the row as well. PEMF we are openly sceptical about.

None of these treat a condition, none replace a dermatologist, and none of them will do anything at all if you use them twice and put them in a cupboard. Consistency is the entire mechanism, so buy the one you will actually pick up.

Some links below are affiliate links. If you buy through them, SkinSourcer may earn a commission at no additional cost to you. It never changes what we pick or what you pay.

LYMA Laser PRO
01

LYMA Laser PRO

Devices United Kingdom Approx. $5995

It is the only device in this Edit that has been through clinical trials and an FDA clearance rather than arriving on marketing alone, and that is worth saying plainly even at this price.

  • Sold by LYMA directly, so there is no grey market question at six thousand dollars
  • The protocol is fifteen minutes a day, which is at least honest about the commitment
  • Clearance and published trials, which almost nothing else in home beauty tech has
Form
Handheld cold laser with a charging base and a shielded applicator

Five thousand nine hundred and ninety five dollars, which makes it more than five times the price of the next most expensive thing on this entire site. A clearance means a device has been found safe and substantially similar to something already on the market. It is not proof that it will work on your face. Results in the trials came from daily use over months, so if you will not do fifteen minutes a day this is an ornament. We are not going to repeat the tightening, scar or medical claims on the listing. Note this is the PRO, not the standard LYMA Laser, which is less than half the price.

CurrentBody Skin LED 4-in-1 Zone Facial Mapping Mask
02

CurrentBody Skin LED 4-in-1 Zone Facial Mapping Mask

Devices United Kingdom Approx. $450

CurrentBody publishes its wavelengths rather than describing the light in adjectives, and the flexible body sits closer to the face than a rigid shell.

  • Stated wavelengths you can look up
  • Flexible, so it actually contacts the skin
  • Ten minute sessions rather than thirty
Form
Flexible silicone mask, rechargeable

Evidence for LED is evolving and results depend on consistent use. It may improve the appearance of fine lines. It is not a treatment for any skin condition and it does not replace a dermatologist.

Therabody TheraFace Mask Glo
03

Therabody TheraFace Mask Glo

Devices USA Approx. $380

The least expensive LED mask here from a brand with a real service record, and the eye shielding is integrated rather than an afterthought.

  • Seventy dollars less than the CurrentBody
  • Eye protection built in
  • Therabody supports its hardware properly
Form
Rigid mask with eye protection built in

A rigid shell fits some faces and not others. Same caveats as all LED: appearance only, consistency required, not a medical device.

HigherDOSE Infrared Sauna Blanket
04

HigherDOSE Infrared Sauna Blanket

Devices USA Approx. $699

It is a very good heated blanket with a timer, and that is genuinely pleasant. We are recommending the ritual, not a physiological mechanism.

  • Folds away, unlike an actual sauna
  • Controllable temperature and timer
  • The wind-down effect is the honest benefit
Form
Zip-up heated blanket you lie inside

We will not use detox language about this and neither should anyone else. Heat exposure is not suitable for everyone, especially in pregnancy or with cardiovascular conditions. Ask a doctor first.

CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Panel
05

CurrentBody Skin LED Light Therapy Panel

Devices United Kingdom Approx. $900

The step up from a mask, for the body rather than the face, and the wavelengths are disclosed here too.

  • Covers an area a mask cannot
  • Published wavelengths and irradiance
  • Free standing, so no wall mounting
Form
Free-standing full body panel

Nine hundred dollars and the biggest commitment in this edit. Start with a mask. If you do not use that three times a week, you will not use this.

HigherDOSE Infrared PEMF Go Mat
06

HigherDOSE Infrared PEMF Go Mat

Devices USA Approx. $699

Included as the heat mat it is, because it is a comfortable one and people ask about it. The infrared warmth is the part we can vouch for.

  • Deep, even warmth that a hot water bottle cannot match
  • Portable version of the full size mat
  • Good for a stretching routine you keep skipping
Form
Firm mat with crystals over a heating layer

The evidence for PEMF is thin and we are not going to pretend otherwise. Buy it as an excellent heat mat or do not buy it.

Therabody TheraFace Depuffing Wand
07

Therabody TheraFace Depuffing Wand

Devices USA Approx. $170

The only thing here that works in ninety seconds rather than ten minutes, and cold plus vibration is a mechanism nobody has to oversell.

  • Works in the time you actually have in the morning
  • Cold is a real and immediate effect
  • The least expensive device in this edit
Form
Chilled metal wand with vibration

Temporary and cosmetic, which is exactly what it claims. A cold spoon does a version of this for free.

Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Hydra-Gel Eye Patches
08

Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Hydra-Gel Eye Patches

Masks USA Approx. $56

The eye patch with a jar that shows up backstage, in bridal suites, and in the fridge of everyone who owns it. Ten minutes of cold hydrogel and the eye area looks like it slept better than you did.

  • Keep them in the fridge, thank us later
  • Sixty patches, so the ritual survives the math
  • Instant in the only way skincare honestly can be
Texture
Chilled-feeling hydrogel patches
Key ingredients
Hyaluronic acid
Fragrance
Not stated

The ten-minute reset.

Skin Gym Active Infusion Skincare Wand
09

Skin Gym Active Infusion Skincare Wand

Wellness USA Approx. $150

The device for people whose products outnumber their tools. Skin Gym's wand pairs warmth, gentle vibration and red light to help work in the serum you already bought, which is a more honest job than most wands claim. Consistency, as ever, is the entire mechanism.

  • Makes existing serums the point
  • Warmth plus light in one pass
  • A wand with a defined, modest job
Form
A warming LED wand that helps press serum into skin

The supporting act your serums wanted.

Hyperice Normatec Premier Legs
10

Hyperice Normatec Premier Legs

Recovery USA Approx. $1099

The most expensive device on this shelf, and the clearest example of what the category charges for convenience: the controller is built into the boots, so there is no pump box and no hose. That is genuinely the difference between using them and not. What compression does is well established for the feeling of heavy legs and less so for anything beyond that, and eleven hundred dollars buys the format, not a different mechanism.

  • No separate pump box, which is why they get used
  • Full-leg coverage rather than below the knee
  • The price buys convenience, not a different effect
Form
Full-leg compression boots, untethered

The format is the upgrade, and it is priced like one.

Hyperice Venom 2 Back
11

Hyperice Venom 2 Back

Recovery USA Approx. $269

Heat and vibration in something you wear while doing something else, aimed at the one area a massage gun cannot reach well. It sits with the sauna blanket rather than the massage guns because the mechanism is the same as everything else in this row: warmth, applied for long enough to be pleasant. Safety note: heat devices and broken or irritated skin do not mix, and neither do heat and numb areas.

  • Wearable, so it happens while you do something else
  • Reaches the back, which percussion handles badly
  • Warmth is the mechanism, and warmth is pleasant
Form
Wrap with heat and vibration, worn on the lower back

A heated wrap that admits that is what it is.
